What is Medicare, and who is eligible?

Medicare is a federal health insurance program primarily for people aged 65 or older, or those under 65 with certain disabilities or End-Stage Renal Disease. Eligibility typically begins at 65 or after 24 months of disability benefits.

What’s the difference between Medicare Advantage and Original Medicare?

Original Medicare (Parts A & B) is managed by the government, covering hospital and medical services. Medicare Advantage (Part C) is offered by private insurers, often including extra benefits like vision or dental, but may have network restrictions.

What are the different parts of Medicare?

There are 4 parts to Medicare: Part A (hospital coverage), Part B (medical coverage), Part C (Medicare Advantage, combining A, B, and often D), and Part D (prescription drug coverage). Medigap plans help cover out-of-pocket costs.

Can I have both Medicare Advantage and Medigap?

No, you cannot have both at the same time. Medigap works with Original Medicare (Parts A & B), while Medicare Advantage (Part C) is an alternative that often includes additional benefits.

Does Medicare cover dental, vision, or hearing?

Typically Original Medicare doesn’t cover routine dental, vision, or hearing. In addition some Medicare Advantage plans in Louisville include these benefits, so compare plans for coverage details.
